Who We Are
Smile for a Lifetime Foundation is a charitable non-profit organization that provides orthodontic care to individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to acquire assistance. Launched in 2008 Smile for a Lifetime Foundation aims to reach individuals with financial challenges, special situations and orthodontic needs. The Foundation sponsors the orthodontic care of hundreds of patients each year. Smile for a Lifetime Foundation has participating orthodontists throughout the US. Each chapter has its own local Board of Directors who choose patients to be treated by the Foundation. OBX Smile for a Lifetime Foundation serves northeastern North Carolina.
Our Mission
At Smile for a Lifetime Foundation it is our mission to create self confidence, inspire hope and change the lives of children in our community in a dramatic way. The gift of a smile can do all this for a deserving underserved individual who can use this gift to better themselves and our community.
The Doctor
Dr. Claypoole is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He received his Masters in Orthodontics while attending the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill. His training at North Carolina was as a National Institute of Health Fellow. At the University of North Carolina Dr. Claypoole concentrated on clinical and research projects related to cleft palate patients. He is a board certified Diplomat of the American Association of Orthodontics and is a past president of the UNC Orthodontic Alumni Association. He is the founder of the OBX Smile for a Lifetime Foundation and owner of Claypoole OBX Orthodontics in Nags Head, NC.
He is married to Val Rhae and has three grown children that live in central North Carolina. His son, Chris, is in general dental practice in the Durham area. Personal interests are enjoying the water sports on the Outer Banks, flying, fishing and sports of all kinds (particularly ones related to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill).
